A Taste of Harmony – Long Table Lunch

A kaleidoscopic mix of colours, culture and cuisine, our Long Table Lunch celebrated the many cultures that call the City of Cockburn home on Thursday 8 November.

Set amongst the leafy trees of Anning Park, food was shared and stories told as we came together to build connections across our community. Approximately 40 community members attended the lunch, along with special guest City of Cockburn Mayor Logan Howlett and his wife Pat Howlett.

The lunch commenced with a Welcome to Country by Evelyn Ronan, followed by traditional folk dancing. Attendees all brought a dish to share that had special meaning to them, or their culture. This multifarious food acted as conversational starters with community members bonding over stories of life, love and change.

Special presentations were made over lunch by Jessica Donald from Success library, Vesna Milanovic from Froggys Fun on the Green and Belinda from Connecting Community for Kids. The presentations were translated for the Chinese Community by Karol Zhang.

The children were kept busy with a kid’s activity corner and playground.

Community members were delighted with the opportunity to be unified in their pride and to celebrate the richness and benefits we get from being such a diverse community.

We will be holding a long table dinner on 22 December. More details here – http://bit.ly/2PKIuCR
