Neighbourhoods Connected

Goal - Families are socially connected to others in the community.

Safe and supporting neighbourhoods are places where families are connected.

Community prioritised social connections (reducing social isolation) and safe communities as key impacts on young children.

This Action Team  focuses on building connections between people who live around us, and developing a feeling of safety and a sense of community.

We encourage community members to organise BBQ’s, picnics in the park, coffee mornings or any other type of gathering to build stronger supportive communities.

Recent achievements and current focus

Street by Street

In 2018 we supported workshops whilch built the capacity of the community to be neighbourhood connectors.  Several of our Action Team members held local street events in their own community.

Street Libraries
We had great fun building and setting up little book libraries in Cockburn.  Five street libraries were established for the whole community to share:  Meerilinga Children and Family Centre, South Lake Ottey Family and Neighbourhood Centre, Yangebup Family Centre, Cockburn Cares. Carnegie Parade.

Kids in Nature
Kids in Nature is a new series of monthly activities for children in Kwinana.  Each event is held in a different park, therefore connecting families to different neighbourhoods in their local community. The focus of activities will be nature and the environment and recent events included worm farming and a nature scavenger hunt.
